Preview Playback

The Preview Playback submenu on the Pixel Editor's Tools menu gives you several options when playing a sequence in the Pixel Editor:

No Preview
Display Preview on Main Window
Display Preview in Separate Window
Show Background Image
Force Refresh
Fast Playback Marker

No Preview on Playback

Selecting “Preview Playback” and then “No Preview on Playback” from the Pixel Editor's Tools menu will prevent the simulated preview from being displayed during playback operations. This mode is selected when there is a checkmark next to the menu item. In this mode, you will see the current timing mark scroll across the screen, but there will be no display simulation. This setting may be useful for people with very slow computers, but it is not recommended for general use.

Display Preview on Main Window

Selecting “Preview Playback” and then “Display Preview on Main Window” from the Pixel Editor's Tools menu will cause the simulated preview to display on the left-hand side of the main window during playback operations. This mode is selected when there is a checkmark next to the menu item.

Display Preview in Separate Window

Selecting “Preview Playback” and then “Display Preview in Separate Window” from the Pixel Editor's Tools menu will cause the simulated preview to display in a separate window during playback operations. This mode is selected when there is a checkmark next to the menu item and is useful for people with 2 or more monitors attached to their computer. If you sequence to videos instead music, this is the only mode that displays your video during playback.

Show Background Image

Selecting “Preview Playback” and then “Show background image” from the Pixel Editor's Tools menu allows you to toggle the display of the background image during simulated previews. Turning off the background image may provide slightly better playback performance on slow computers.

Force Refresh

Selecting “Preview Playback” and then “Force Refresh” from the Pixel Editor's Tools menu toggles the Force Refresh mode when the simulated preview is displayed. This mode is selected when there is a checkmark next to the menu item. On most computers, this option can be turned off. However, if you notice that the preview window is not updating during playback operations, try turning the Force Refresh mode on. It tells Windows to update the screen with a higher priority.

Fast Playback Marker

The “Fast Playback Marker” is a flag that can be checked or unchecked. In most cases this setting should be checked, which uses fewer resources during sequence playback. However, in some cases the red playback marker will not draw correctly – in particular, this has been noticed when the screen is being recorded for a screencast. In this case, the “Fast Playback Marker” setting should be unchecked.
