Joseph Noe, Colton, SD, United States, Category 7, Hello Light-O-Rama
crew! While starting small with a 64 channel system at my home in
Crooks, SD in 2006, the show known as "Crooks Christmas" has now moved
into the Western Mall in Sioux Falls, SD. Over the years, it has grown
into somewhat of a local and regional sensation, raising about $25,000 a
year for our SD Make-A-Wish chapter and has granted over 25 wishes over
the years! It grew so popular while at our home that we would get lines
a half mile deep waiting two hours to see the show! Last year, we
decided to move to a new home but wanted to keep the display going, so
we were fortunate enough to have a mall in Sioux Falls agree to take the
display. Crooks Christmas has now become “Christmas at the Western
Mall”. For a good 3 minute news article and video of how this has
evolved, follow this link: http://www.keloland.com/news/eyeonkeloland/NewsDetail6403.cfm/Lighting_Up_Holiday_Wishes/?Id=124457
One more thing.... this years show features one song that I think
showcases some of our best work ever. The best part is that the music
was created and composed by a relative unknown living in the UK. He
seems just as happy to have seen his music to lights as I am to have
his amazing music available to use in my show!
Thanks and Happy Judging!
Joe Noe

Jeffrey Holmes, Clayton, Ca, United States, Category 7, This project was
one big, fun experiment. When your Mom asks for a display at her house,
the "work" part of it all goes away and the adventure begins.
This display was a challenge because we needed it to be easily and
quickly installed and torn down. My solution was to create a show
entirely of RGB floodlights, which would emphasize the building itself
instead of the lights, and also eliminate the need to put a 60-year old
woman on a ladder (because knowing her, if we tried to keep her off the
ladder we would be in trouble).
Since Mom doesn't have a lot of neighbors, we were able to use speakers
instead of a radio transmitter which really helped to bring the house to
life :). The display consisted of one 5-minute Christmas medley that
played every half hour.
Sometimes it can be tough to know whether Mom truly enjoys something,
but when she came up to me at the end of the season and asked me to
start a new tradition where we do a special "mommy-creation" for her
every year, I figured she was proud :). |

Chris Schneider, Brooklyn, NY, United States, Category 7, This was our
first commercial display, done using 128 LOR channels and 45 channels
worth of RGB (DMX) spotlights. They wanted a classy, elegant yet
energetic display. The show is broken in to seven different "sections"
of Jingle Bells and with each section we add more lights to build up the
excitement and incorporate new looks. To catch them all, be sure to
watch all the way to the end! This display was done on the campus of
Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. |
