ShowTime Showcase for 2010 with Displays from Foreign Countries

We're all about creating dynamic shows by mixing lights, music and electrical control of almost anything and everything.  Our customers are very proud of their displays and have sent us videos. Watch them and get some great ideas!  Click any image to watch their submitted video.

All videos are in a universal ,mp4 format so they should play on Macs, PCs and smartphones.  If videos are slow to open, it's because the entire video is downloaded before playback begins.  Adjust your browser default program settings to start playing an .mp4 file while it is still streaming to your device for a much better viewing experience.  If you are using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9, we suggest you goto:  Tools :: Internet Options :: Programs Tab :: Set Programs (near the bottom).  Now goto Set Program Access and Computer Defaults.  Select Custom then scroll down the list till you see "Choose a default media player." Click the radio button next to Windows Media Player and you are good to go.

Ryan Lissner Salisbury East, South Australia  Australia.  In 2008 I contacted an indie band with a difference after seeing their Wizards In Winter contest video (check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InqsateEyXo&feature=related), and since then have been using a special Christmas rock song called "Suite Christmas Rush". To my knowledge I am still the only display in the world using this song even though it was composed with blinky flashy Christmas lights in mind. I am a student with a student budget and have been long before I began decorating - but I think I pull off an alright display by Australian standards :-) http://www.ryanschristmaslights.com

Grant Willis Highbury, South Australia  Australia.  My display has ~20000 lights and 147 channels. 32 channels are 240VAC while the remainder are DC at a mixture of 24 and 36V. It is mostly hand built, with the decorations being fashioned from various sources - mostly garden nurseries. Rose and Tomato arbor growing frames worked really well to "grow" lights on. The presents are all hand built as well, lit using car reversing and brake light bulbs. In full flight the system draws about 4kW of power and runs for about 3 hours a night (due to it being summer it doesn't get dark until 8.30-9.00pm). There are today 9 sequences running for about 40 minutes in total.  This is my 3rd year with Light-O-Rama - next year - CCR's I think will be the order of the day as we strive to bring yet more colour to the display! http://christmas.darkeyrie.net/

David Usher Kingaroy, Queensland  Australia.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qkKHGSzJ1M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tz6EWZGJvc  As our display is on such large land i have posted 2 utube videos. 1 is of the toy factory run by 14 channels in stand alone mode and the other is our house controlled by 7x dc modules and 2x 240v module. On out garage door we have video clips or slideshows for each sequenced song.

Geoff Harvey Brisbane, Queensland  Australia.  My display consists of about 80,000 lights running from about 360 Light-O-Rama channels (10 AC boards + 19 DC boards)+ 6 CCRs which are connected end to end in pairs with all 3 pairs running from the same address. I first became interested in Christmas lights about 7 years ago (to impress our young (then toddlers) grandchildren). I then found lights could be computer controlled. Having always had an interest and involvement with computers during my working life, this prospect fascinated me. I bought my first Light-O-Rama boards about 6 years ago and experimented. This year 2010 was the first year in which I have achieved lights & music synchronization. While this had always been my goal, I had a mental block in previous years. While I had previously produced some nice animation shows with background music, the synchronization had always eluded me for lack of knowing how, time etc... My display is comprised of components which are mostly Australian local components and the entire display has to be capable of erection by one person - myself. I have adapted features from the internet to suit my location - eg megatree, arches, minitrees, firework stars, etc. This year I am very happy with the light display and the performance of LOR, and in having achieved my goal of synchronization. Even with the very wet and trying conditions we have experienced this year, we have been getting good crowds and have collected over $700 for charity in this, our first year of accepting charity donations.

Jason Trebilcock Perth, Western Australia Australia. My first year with Light-O-Rama, always wanted to "test" out the waters, never had the time or money... Without having a house to display on this year I noticed that the year before my wife's mum's street was very quiet. As we were in an apartment I decided to shake the mother in laws street up a bit, so out came the lights from storage... After a few weeks of setting up my (new) wife suddenly realized what I had been talking about - this Christmas light thing was no small matter!!!! On talking a bit more, and showing her the Light-O-Rama website, my Christmas present - a 16 channel controller was on order. I new exactly what I wanted to do, but didn't want to use the old incandescent lights I had, so purchased new LED's, and checked the UPS web site every day hoping... Well it arrived in time, and setup was easy thanks to the Light-O-Rama team and the great site and following.  As my first attempt (approx. 8000 lights including static display), I thought it looked great, and it did "shake" up the street. From 1 to 2 to 5 to 10 people a night, it grew as it does...  Thanks LOR, next year I will start earlier :):)

Zana Thiele LYNDOCH, SA  Australia.  This is our second year of using the Light-O-Rama controllers...we have 80 channels this year and plans to double it for next year.  The small red trees and the part of the mega tree are on because of blown triacs....we have very gratefully received new ones to fix it before next year....This year we had a lot of storms and rain, so I think this really tested the system. We have many people come and visit our house-often more than once over the Christmas season-we are THAT house in our local area and we love it!  The computer contolled section is only a part of our overall display- we have an acre and a half block-so our front yard is very large.

Paul Toole wells, somerset  United Kingdom.  This year i've added more lights and controller. I currently have around 40,000.  We held the switch on, where over 500 people joined us for free mince pie's and wine. Santa also came and gave out free gifts to the kids.  Judy Pancoast flew over and sung a mini concert.  The Display features, Mega tree, Mega Star, Leaping Arches, Mini Tree's, Polar Bear, Penguins, A homemade waterfall and pond for the penguins to swim in. A Huge 20ft Firework Light & 10ft Ferris Wheel.  I'm also using ALL 240v Lights, i found a great suplier and they work great with LOR.  I'm also using Santa's Symphonies from the window, this was a great addition to thsi years show, people were amazed that he was actually conducting the music. Something they have never seen here in the UK before. A Happy Crowd = A Happy Decorator.  We have raised over £2,000 ($3,000) for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK this holiday season.  Its made the national news & newspaper, I've had a blast this year, and just cannot wait to plan this years display. I kinda get all sad now until i start once again in May.

Jamie Taylor Warwick, Queensland  Australia.  2nd year of synchronized lighting. 120+ Light-O-Rama channels and over 30 000 lights. We enjoy bringing joy to the community at Christmas time and sharing the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus.  http://christmasonbisley.com

Chris Thedorou Melbourne, Victoria  Australia.  Our 2010 display grew to 64 channels this year from 32, our h'light is a 6 1/2 metre mega tree. This year we added a falling snowflake and 3 leaping arches which were very effective. What a great way to meet your neighbours (funny enough the complained that the music was never loud enough, good problem to have). can not wait for the 2011 season. http://www.melbournechristmas.webs.com

Todd Coggins Springfield, Queensland  Australia.  Christmas 2010 using 240 channels of Light-O-Rama and 45000 + lights
